months notice is required in order to allow sufficient time
for preparation of the couple. Nine months to a year's notice is preferable,
since this makes it easier for the couple to attend all the sessions of a
Marriage Preparation Course which the Parish arranges on an annual basis.
The structure and contents of this course are described briefly

Parish Marriage Preparation Course |
Information Evening This evening generally takes place in January. Along with Fr Paul there is someone who will explain all you need to do with regard to the Civil Registration of your marriage. Also present will be one of the organists and one of the ladies who arranges the flowers in church. We have a glass of wine and meet all the couples being married during the year. Marriage Preparation Day In late spring (the 2006 meeting is on Saturday 29th April), Catholic Marriage Care runs a day looking at some ways of getting the best out of your married life together. The day starts at 10.00 with coffee and concludes at 16.30 with tea. Lunch will be provided. This is usually a great day with a lot of laughter as well as serious discussion. It will certainly get you talking! Instructional Sessions We have two required evening meetings during February and/or March. In one of these we explore the Catholic view of Marriage as a Sacrament; in the other we explore the meaning and value of the Marriage Vows. We are joined by some married couples from the parish to help us in this exploration. Personal meetings with Fr Paul Fr Paul will meet you as a couple on two occasions, firstly to complete the necessary paperwork and secondly to help you plan your wedding service. |
