Arabic text of Our Father, as displayed in Pater Noster Church, in Jerusalem

Another version of the Arabic form of the prayer

An English Transliteration

The accompanying translation corresponds line by line to the Arabic sense, but does not precisely follow the Arabic word order.

Abana alathie fi asamawat,
Our Father, who art in heaven
li yatakadas ismok,
hallowed be thy name
li ya’atie malakotok,
thy kingdom come
litakon mashia tok,
thy will be done
kama fisama’
in heaven
kathaleka ala al ard.
as well as on earth
A’atinia khubzana
give us bread
kafafa yawmina,
for our life today

wa igfer lana khatayana,
and forgive us our trespasses
kama nahnu naghfer
as we forgive
la man akhta’a elayna,
those who trespass against us
wa la tudkhilna
and do not lead us
fit a jareeb;
into temptation
laken najjina
but deliver us
min ashireer.
from the evil one.
Amin

Two Spoken Versions

The .WAV format files should be recognized and played automatically by almost all browsers on systems which are capable of playing sounds at all. The .MP3 format files are about half the size, but not all browsers will recognise and/or play them (you may see a file download dialog box when you click on the link if your browser does not directly support the format). Even the MP3 versions are large files (approximately 500 kb) and will take some minutes to download if you do not have a broadband internet connection.

1) Recorded in the Basilica of St. Anne, in Jerusalem, by Sari, a Palestinian Christian. This is a higher quality version of the audio stream that plays when this page is opened.

.WAV                     .MP3

2) Recorded at the Sacred Heart Church, St. Ives, by Arab Christian visitors.
